The schoolhouse portion of the library will be reconfigured as the children's area, with updated lighting, movable bookcases to allow for flexibility and a craft area that can also be used by adults.
Built in 1897, the schoolhouse served as one of the Lee schools until 1954 when Lee joined with Durham and Madbury to form the Oyster River School District. The building was placed on the NH Historic Register in 2020. Once the renovations are complete, the building will return to its original purpose: educating and entertaining the children of Lee.

The circulation desk and offices will be moved to the left of the building closer to the entrance, which will allow for better sight lines. The entrance into the adult stacks and meeting space will be widened for better access. One of the goals of the renovation is to increase accessibility for all the citizens of Lee.
This shows the floor plan of the renovated main floor and the basement. Once enough money has been raised, a limited use lift will
be installed which will make the basement accessible. Some of
the adult stacks will be moved to the basement to allow for more gathering space on
the main floor.
